This painting is part of my series 'Not So Hopeless' which aims to counterbalance the dominance of negative news about endangered animals by refreshing the public with success stories from all around the world.
This work was inspired by the following successful actions to save the Short-Tailed Albatross in Japan:
In 1954, roughly six breeding pairs were present on Torishima. Given that there are now 609 breeding pairs on Torishima(1), the species has undergone an enormous increase since its rediscovery and the onset of conservation efforts."(2)
