This painting is part of my series 'Not So Hopeless' which aims to counterbalance the dominance of negative news about endangered animals by refreshing the public with success stories from all around the world.
This work was inspired by the following successful actions to save the Oregon Chub in the USA:
After bouncing back from near extinction the Oregon Chub was completely delisted from the Endangered Species list in 2015 - "making it the first fish to ever be delisted dur to recovery"
"Today, after 22 years of recovery work, there are an estimated 140,000 chub in 80 populations along the Willamette River and its tributaries."
“This is an excellent example of how the ESA (Endangered Species Act) is intended to function,” Hannan added, “partners working together to recover endangered species and the ecosystems upon which they, and we, depend.”
